I recieved an email today from a SNAP leader up in Pennsylvania. A survivor in Iowa is looking for information on the predator that abused him as a child. The name of the predator priest is Peter J. Dunne of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
This particular priest is a real piece of work. I am going to provide you some links to allow you to read up on what this “man of god” did to children and how the Archdiocese of Philadelphia protected him while the victims received no such consideration.
I would like to provide a quick summary on this guy before you start checking out links. “Father” Peter Dunne was ordained in 1954. He is a diocesan priest who served in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. He has been publicly accused of abusing 3 teenage boys and 1 boy of unknown age. The Archdiocese allegedly learned of abuse in 1986. As a result, Dunne was sent for treatment and then reassigned (code for: allowed to return to ministry by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia in a new parish with a fresh, unsuspecting crop of potential targets). He has reportedly paid 1 victim $40,000 for his silence. He retired from active ministry in 1995, after 41 years of diocesan assignments, no doubt leaving a trail of victims in his deviant criminal wake. In 2004 he was placed on permanently restricted ministry with no faculties. He has accepted a supervised life of Prayer and Penance. Put another way, he is collecting a pension, living in an Archdiocese of Philadelphia subsidized environment with no repurcusions for the damage he has caused.
Peter Dunne took boys on trips to Iowa. Nice! Crossing state lines with minors for the purpose of committing sexual crimes! He knew that taking the kids to a unknown environment, completely cut off from family, friends, or other familiar forms of support would make them more vulnerable and dependent on him. This is the kind of priest that the Archdiocese of Philadelphia has been sheltering and providing a pension.
A civil suit was filed in Iowa in 2008.

I can comment to other survivors of Fr. Dunne. I checked the Phila INQUIRER’s obits for 2 weeks after the post that he had died. I can’t find anything in print to validate his death.
I have so many feelings whenever I turn my thoughts in this direction. I will pray for him but his death draws no conclusion on the sticky mess he left me with. I will never outgrow the damage left on me as a boy, a teen, and as a young man. By the way, I was a new seminarian at St. Charles when Sam Shoemaker was an 8th year sem. It’s not like Sam didn’t know Fr. Pete; we were all in the same parish on Harbison Ave. in NE Phila for years. Another one of my `pars` in those years was taken to the carpet because of his acting out but it was with a young female teen, I think.
You Are just like Father Peter Dunne. You and him had a real good thing going and I know what you and him cooked upand what you both did. So dont ack like he Made you do the things you did to me and other kids. Remember Corning Iowa?

it was in summer of 1977 an 1978 i was then 13 yrs of age when i went camping up into canada with a group of four priest one of witch was father peter dunn who had a large group of boys from saint frances .the story was that peter owned a cabin there with father frank loughren from st charles sem .also with the group,i remember how the boys of st frances feared him an a young boy namsd butch told me to stay clear of him as he was know to them to be quite violent with them i also remember that being naked in front of us both fr loughren an dunn did with no embaresment it was one yr later that fr frank lougren cornered me in his room at st chareles boro seminary where i had been sent to receave counsil as a troubled child it was there he turned his council twards sex .my own oreintation was of special concern to him ,i was asked to give pennance an was cornered by father frank loughren who demanded to know what where in my thoughts when i masterbated .i ran i ran some more stayed as far away from the church as posible i beleave to this day that i was very close to being acousted by peter dunns close buddy fr loughran ,any one else know if frank loughren got cought.. still troubles me to this day ..
Joe, first let me say I am sorry for what happened to you when you were 13. Second, I need to ask, Was the cabin you mention located in Quebec? I ask because I have reason to suspect that a priest I know, whose name turned up on the Philadelphia Archdiocese’s “secret memo” as an abuser, may have been abused himself by Father Loughran when he was a student at the seminary back in 1974. I know Father Loughran (who by the way was dean of men on the seminary’s college side) used to invite certain seminarians to his cabin, and the priest I know was one of those who went. I knew Fr. Dunne if it is the same one at Cardinal Dougherty HS from 1957 – 61. He was the advisor to the Soccer team of which I was the Mngr. He owned Buick and often gave me a ride to and from School. He never once made any advances to me or anyone else that I am aware of. It was rumored that he had Sister the actress Irene Dunne. I believe he later was transfered to NE CHS.
